The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.
